Speaker for the Dead
Anderson and Graff return back to Earth. Battle school has ended and the IF is completely destroyed. Graff is also being sued for working wirth the IF. Ender is made into an admiral. Ender and Valentine go to Eros to populate the buggers home planet because Ender was not allowed on Earth. Valentine explains to Ender that Demosthenes has quit and is now writing a book about everything that has happened. They make it to the bugger's planet and elect Ender for the governer. Evertthing rus smoothly on the planet, they are happy. A second colony is coming in and Ener must find another location for them. As Ender is looking around he finds everything on the fantasy game he was playing. He found the giant's body, the giant's drink, the path through the woods, the playground and last, the tower. Within the tower Ender finds a bugger queen egg. He consults Valentine and they go off to find the buggars a new home. As everything is going on Ender proceeds on writing books about his life. He writes about the war, the buggers, and for the title he names it after the buggers, Speaker for the Dead.

Ender's Teacher
Chapter 14- Ender's Teacher
-a discussion between Graff and Admiral Chamrajnagar about the journey to the I.F command and questions Graff about the 3 month vacation he let Ender take.
-Admiral tells Graff what is planned for Ender.
-Ender spends time either alone with Graff, mostly working on the simulator
-In the beginning of the game Ender starts by commanding a single fighter, but soon is in charge of a whole fleet.
-Later, the next day Mazer Rackham, Ender's new teacher, introduces himself. He tells Ender that he will be his teacher because he is his enemy.
-Ender and Reckham watch videos of the first and second invasions
- Reckham explains to Ender that the buggers are like highly evolved insects, they don't talk, the communication comes from the queen.
-Reckham explains modern weapons and the advantages of humans over buggers- every pilot is a thinking being so they can carry out more strategies.
-Ender moves to new simulator and commands a fleet made of all his battle school friends
-Mazar tells Ender he is winning so he cannot quit
-Ender sspends hours practicing with squad leaders
-Ender is very tired but doesn't give up
-Ender has strange dreams of the buggars
-He breaks down physically, goes to fight a battle and wins- his days begin to blend together in that pattern
-Mazar tells Ender that the battle will be his final exam in commander school
-Ender sees the battle and is very out numbered
-He decides that he will win an unfair battle than be beaten unfairly
-Ender destroys the planet the buggers live on- everyone cheers
-Mazar tells Ender that he has not been in the simulator the whole time. Ender was the commander of the Third Invasion
-Ender is upset with Mazar and Graff for using him. He didn't want to hurt anyone, but destroys a race without his own knowledge
-Ender sleeps throught 5 days of war on Earth and when he awakes, the Locke Proposal has been accepted
-His friends are there to tell him what he had missed

After a lot of hard work and dedication, Ender wins the battle and destroys the planet that the buggers live on. Everyone cheered loudly and was very proud of Ender. Mazar goes up to Ender and tells him that he was not in a simulator, he had been the commander of the Third Invasion and the battle was real. Ender gets mad at Graff and Mazar for using him the way they did. Ender wasn't planning on hurting anyone, but he demolishes an entire race without his own knowledge. Courageous Young Boy
Do you view Ender as a strong or weak person?
Ender is viewed as a strong person as he has an immerse amount of courage and bravery. He is able to make his own decisions at the age of six. Ender is sent off to a battle school and is faced with many challenges that he has to overcome. Valentine his appreciative and caring older sister loves Ender and doesn't want him to go, but Ender has to face his fear of leaving Valentine. However, Peter is glad to have Ender leave home but deep down Ender believes he will miss Peter. Ender is physically strong as well, "Ender reached up with both hands, snatched the boy by the wrist, then pulled down on the arm fast." This particular line shows that Ender didn't quite realize his own strength as he breaks the boys arm. Ender has a lot of strength physically and emotionally with the choices he is faced with.

A Night of Unfortunate Events
Is it a mystery or suspense?When is the suspense introduced?How is it resolved?Did the author include any red herrings?Is the story an example of poetic justice?
The short story, "Uneasy Homecoming" is definitely a mystery. From the moment that Connie arrived home she knew something wasn't right. She felt like someone or something was in her house with her. Suspense is introduced when she begins to walk around her house in the darkness of the night, noticing that things are out of place. Connie calls Mrs. Winston, her neighbour, for someone to talk to and finds out that there has recently been burglaries in the remote area. She heads upstairs and finds cigarette butts on the floor and a bag of jewelry under the bed. She runs to shut off all the lights, but notices a broken window and mud tracks on the floor. Connie then hears and sees the burglar in the house. The suspense is resolved when she flees the house and lights the motorcycle on fire and help comes to the rescue. There are no red herrings, as we knew from the beginning something wasn't right. Also, it is not an example of poetic justice because we didn't find out what happened to the burglar, who happened to be Mrs. Winston's son, Charlie. This short story is a great mystery, it has us hanging off the edge of each word to find out what may happen next.

Loving Housewife or Evil Murderer?

The short story "Lamb to Slaughter" by Roald Dahl is a suspense. In the beginning of the story Mrs. Maloney seems to be a loving and doting housewife who is in love with her husband. She leads everyone to believe that she is a good wife. The suspence is intrduced when her husband comes home from work and she makes him comfortable. Mr. Maloney seems uneasy even though they participate in their everyday routine. Mrs. Maloney goes to get a lamb leg for supper and Mr. Maloney gets upset and says he is going out. The tension slowly builds until she bashes him over the head with the leg of lamb. The suspence is resolved when she calls the police over and cooks them the lamb leg she used to kill Mr. Maloney with. This story is not an example of poetic justice because Mrs. Maloney doen't get punished for the crime that she committed. The red herrings are in the beginning of the story when everyone is lead to believe that Mrs. Maloney is a good and loving housewife. The author creates a good mystery story that had us guessing what was going to happen next.

Your Kinsman
1. Choose several lines from Anne Sexton's poem "Courage" explain them in detail. Examine the lines for meaning, figurative language and appeal.
My favorite part of the poem begins in the third stanza, where it explains how sorrow was treated as a friend. The entire stanza portrays images of how sorrow can break you down, but if you treat it like a friend it will transform into something happier. An example of imagery in this poem is, "Picking the scabs off your heart, then wringing it out like a sock." This line explains getting the courage within and getting rid of the wounds and injuries you have received in the past. Forgiving and forgetting is a great way to have a happier and more pleasant life style. A great example of personification are the lines, "When death opens the back door you'll put on your carpet slippers and stride out." This line shows us that death isn't going to be a planned event. When its your time to go, nature will take its course and you will pass away unexpectedly and unplanned, just the way it should be. If.. Rudyard Kipling
Do you agree with Kipling's message in this poem? Why or why not?
Yes, I agree with Kipling's message because it is telling us that we should try to be the best that we can. In life giving it your all should be your first priority and I believe that
being a better person will help you have an overall better lifestyle.
Identify which of Kipling's statements is the most meaningful to you and explain why.
All of Kipling's statements are honest and truthful. I however particularly like lines 5 - 6 which say, "If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, or being lied about, don't deal lies." What this means is, If you can remain patient and not grow impatient, or if you don't want to be lied about, then don't lie about others and don't listen to the lies of others; remain truthful. I believe this statement is meaningful to me because you must have patients in life. Things aren't always going to be fast and meaningless, you should take the time to grow trustworthy, faithful and patient. The last part of the statement is about not listening to the lies of others. I really like this part because it deals with everyday life. In society, people are going to gossip and spread lies about others and I have learnt that it is always better on yourself to ignore the lies some people may say about you. The best way to deal with lies is to be truthful to others and to be a genuine person.
